Mission:
The mission of the Kinesiology Program is to explore the multidimensional aspects of human movement and establish a foundation of applicable knowledge and skills through coursework, scholarly activity, and community outreach.
Vision:
The vision of the Kinesiology Program is to empower diverse populations by promoting physically active lifestyles as a way to optimize health, well-being, and performance.
Kinesiology Program Goals, Objectives and Outcomes
GOALS:
The Kinesiology program aims to assist students in the following:
- Pursue an intellectual journey where they will acquire knowledge of the multidimensional aspects of human movement.
- Explore the methodologies of applying knowledge of human movement to enhance human health, well-being, and performance.
OBJECTIVES:
The Kinesiology program aims to assist students in accomplishing the following objectives:
Intellectual Curiosity – foster curiosity and inquisitiveness for knowledge and experiences related to the multidimensional aspects of human movement.
Interdisciplinary Knowledge – develop knowledge and skills related to the multidimensional aspects of human movement.
Critical Thinking – establish the ability to question, analyze, reason, and problem-solve regarding human movement and multifaceted benefits of physical activity.
Knowledge for Application – establish skills for applying knowledge of human movement across diverse populations.
Communication – acquire effective written and oral communication skills to disseminate knowledge in a culturally competent manner.
Professionalism – promote personal and professional growth that embraces continual improvement, collaboration, service, and equity.
Value of Physical Activity – develop and strengthen an understanding of the multifaceted benefits of physical activity for health and well-being.
STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES:
Graduates of the Kinesiology program will be able to:
- Demonstrate a solid foundation of knowledge regarding the multidimensional aspects of human movement.
- Assess human performance and provide prescription for improvement.
- Safely and effectively design and implement physical activity programs for diverse populations.
- Apply scientific principles to evaluate the effectiveness of physical activity interventions.
- Gain an understanding of the behavioral and cultural factors that influence the adoption and adherence of a physically active lifestyle.
- Access and apply scientific evidence regarding the topic of physical activity and related to health benefits.
- Provide factual dissemination of the benefits of physical activity on human health and well-being, utilizing effective communication skills across diverse populations.
